Three is definitely the magic number when saxophonist Doug Webb assembles a colossal ensemble with his fellow reedmen Walt Weiskopf and Joel Frahm for his 2015 release "Triple Play." Highlighted by a full complement of tour de force performances, the album also features powerful showings by the all star rhythm section of organist extraordinaire Brian Charette and the ever exciting drummer Rudy Royston. It's more than just another blowing date, and everyone works seamlessly together to keep the session in the pocket while Webb, Weiskopf and Frahm cover all the bases with their effortless mastery and melodic brilliance on the tenor saxophone.
